2.2.1  First Steps

The painting was created on brown baking paper 2m by 2m. I fist played a game of hockey with a friend using a tennis ball covered in different colored paint, yellow, green, blue, red and white. I hit the ball with a hockey stick which made lines on the paper. After this i did the same but with marbles also picking the up and throwing them to create dots. Then i let the painting dry and didn’t know what to do with it, after two months looking at it i saw a game, naughts and crosses. I highlighted the game by connecting the blue lines that were on the paper and so the name of this exhibition was born. This painting is a game within a game.
Pic 2.32: "Let the Games Begin"

I had made a painting on a large brown wrapping paper but had not finished it till 2 months after I had actually started it. With the use of hockey sticks a tennis ball and marbles I started creating. I dipped the balls in different colors of paint and then continued to pass the balls using the hockey sticks too and from a friend. Both the ball and the hockey stick created lines and patterns of color. When looking at the piece afterwards i was drawn mostly to the two blue lines I had drawn in the form of the letter X. I was not satisfied with the painting at this point as I could not relate it to the rest of the drawings I had previously done. The drawing needed something, it needed a connection. Months later when looking again at the painting I saw something, I saw a game in the drawing, a feeling of play came to me. I remembered the game from my childhood, naughts and crosses. I suddenly felt the urge to draw to more lines in parallel to the ones that were already there. Suddenly i found my connection, the piece had came alive to me. All my previous pieces have derived out of play and here i had a piece that that did the same but with a double meaning, made with the use of a game,a game was found in a game.
